Gabriele Colangelo’s Laser Show
Milan Fashion Week Day Four
23 Сентября 2014
“This season I am inspired by the idea of using laser for deconstruction, for changing things,” said Gabriele Colangelo backstage, showing an apparently simple shirt dress – a trend this season – that opened at the back as a three-dimensional cut-out.
Other outfits seemed to have geometric layers, joining together at angles on the surface of the body.
Play with fabric was also a story, with the laser scraping the material until a coat or dress had the same textured surface that appeared on the invitation.
While most experiments with cutting and crumpling fabric leave a deliberately destroyed effect, Colangelo’s vision is different. Mesh, denim, cotton or leather all had a tidy look, and often only one single element was slightly off kilter.
With a sudden flash of fiery red that died down on the next outfit like glowing ashes, the show had many original pieces. It was easy to see why this designer made it to the shortlist for LVMH’s new Young Designer Award.
