#SuzyLFW: Christopher Raeburn — Sustainability at the heart of Fashion
Suzy Menkes reports on the last day of London Fashion Week
23 Сентября 2015
With gorilla patterns swinging across his blue sweater, Christopher Raeburn closed a collection that was all about monkey business.
To be more precise, the designer of utilitarian, outdoor clothes, with the intention to re-make and re-work surplus garments, has opened a convincing dialogue with women.
Whereas once the brand dealt mainly in reconstructed army materials with men in mind, the female side is stepping beyond outerwear to simple spring/summer 2016 clothes.
A series of crinkly cream silk dresses, the bodice or skirt often integrating transparency with more foggy effects, was in fact made by Vanners, a rare surviving British silk mill.
Other collaborations have brought Raeburn innovative fabrics, but always with sustainability at the heart.
So few companies combine green materials and modern style. However, by making a mental association between the jungle of Borneo (with its chimpanzees) and fashion catwalks, Raeburn has made an impressive leap.
